Perhaps you have cattle that need to be processed and cannot get a date, or you want to become more self-sufficient. Or maybe you just want to know where your retail cuts come from within a side of beef. We’ve got you covered! We believe educating homesteaders and foodies is the key to decentralizing and strengthening your local food system.

Not only will you gain knowledge and confidence, but you’ll also walk away with a cooler full of meat. Each participant of the 3-day intensive course will leave with 1/8th of the head of cattle they helped to harvest (minus the amount used for meals). It varies depending on multiple factors (specific animal, how much is used for the meals, the cuts you decide to make with the bone in or out, etc.), but you can plan on 40-50 pounds per person.

Beef Butchery Group Class Details

3-Day Intensive Class

$975/Per Person

  • We provide the humanely-raised animal(s)
  • 8 students per one head of cattle, unless we are harvesting a miniature beef which will be split between 5 students
  • 3 days of hands-on instruction (Fri-Sun)
  • 4 freshly-prepared chef meals included (please let us know about dietary restrictions and we will try to accommodate)
  • A share of the beef to take home (minus the amount used for meals – approx 40-50 pounds depending on many factors)
  • To best demonstrate how to process on a homestead, meat will be wet aged at home (very simple – instructions will be given)
  • The ‘Be the Butcher’ Beef Butchery Class will run from Noon until finished on Friday, from 9:00am to 6:00pm on Saturday and 9:00am to 4:00pm on Sunday. Class time may vary based on the depth of our discussions.
  • Primitive camping sites are free of charge at the farm but most students will be staying in hotels in Decatur. We have an RV hookup that can be booked on a first-come, first serve basis.
